Shongweni is a semi-rural peri‑urban community within the eThekwini Municipality, located west of central Durban, South Africa. Similar to many South African townships and rural areas, Shongweni’s dominant social challenges include poverty, limited employment opportunities, and youth unemployment driven largely by labor market exclusion and underdevelopment. Isiseko Imara has established a soccer program within the township to provide mentorship opportunities and help keep kids off the streets.
